the Year Award

Note: The following
Library Journal review compared Longevity Made Simple:
How to Add 20 Good Years to Your Life to the book You: Staying
Young by Mehmet Oz, MD, and Michael F. Roizen, MD
"These two titles
examine the current
thinking in the field and outline plans for maintaining vigor well
into the eighties and even beyond
.Flanigan (cardiology, Univ.
of Colorado Health Sciences Ctr.) and Sawyer (codirector, Heart
and Health Prevention Ctr.) are more straightforward and economical
in style, zeroing in on the ten most deadly diseases (e.g.,
heart disease) and how to elude them. Most public libraries will
want to stock a few titles on increasing longevity, a big headline
maker. Flanigan and Sawyer's title is the more accessible
of the two
"
Today's
Diet & Nutrition, Dec. 7, 2007
"Richard J. Flannigan and Kate Flanigan
Sawyer, MD, help you determine your risk for the ten most deadly
diseases that kill three-quarters of Americans. More important,
they detail tactics you can use to reduce or eliminate your risk
factors and thus extend your life. Longevity Made Simple: How
to Add 20 Good Years to Your Life takes a no-nonsense approach
that empowers readers to take charge of their health."
ForeWord Magazine November/December
2007
"According to Flanigan and Sawyer, the chances
of developing the diseases responsible for eighty percent of all
yearly U.S. deaths are not as influenced by family history and genetics
as they are by lifestyle choices: whether or not one eats nutritious
foods, exercises, has the necessary screening tests and takes appropriate
medications when needed. In other words, health and well-being rest
in one's own hands to a greater degree than most people recognize.
The authors share research-based guidelines and a method of developing
a personal risk profile so that readers can create a unique longevity
plan. They also identify the screening tests most likely to detect
disease in the earliest, most treatable, stage and offer ten essential
tips, as well as nutritious recipes, for living a long, healthy
life."
Arthur
Agatston, MD
Author of #1 Bestseller The South Beach Diet
"Today we are finally beginning to appreciate
the role that our often toxic lifestyles play in most of the chronic
diseases of the Western World. We are learning this at a time that
our health care system is overloaded and we must depend more and
more on ourselves to maintain health.
"Dr. Richard J. Flanigan and his daughter Dr.
Flanigan Sawyer have teamed up to produce an invaluable guide
to teach us about the major health threats and the strategies we
can employ to lead happier, healthier, and longer lives."

Clifford Roberts, MD

Vascular Institute
Editor-in-Chief, The American Journal of Cardiology

Yet this splendid book by Dr. Richard Flanigan and his daughter,
Dr. Kate Flanigan Sawyer, distinguishes itself with its brevity
and unique approach. I congratulate the authors for their wise
counsel and urge all to follow it for a healthier, happier, and
longer life."

is a highly readable guide for all those wishing to age successfully
in every sense-physically, intellectually, and emotionally."
James Ehrlich, MD

"As a physician involved in a high tech approach
to the early detection of heart disease and cancer, I cannot provide
a better prescription for healthy aging than to follow the preventive
recommendations in Longevity Made Simple. Expect to live
an extra good two years per chapter here---in that respect, it
is hard to imagine a more valuable contribution to the health advice
literature."
